The two-day International Energy Agency (IEA) meeting had the potential to be a snoozefest, but it livened up when the organisers and the U.S. clashed over the role of renewables as a suitable world energy source.
The White House has responded harshly to the International Summit on the Future of Energy Security, which opened on Thursday, April 24th. Tommy Joyce, Acting Assistant Secretary of Energy for International Affairs, stated
Some want to regulate every form of energy besides the so-called renewables, completely out of existence… We oppose these harmful and dangerous policies. This is not energy security.
In contrast, British Energy Secretary and eco-zealot Ed Miliband welcomed “low carbon energy” as playing “a critical role in delivering energy security.” Yet Miliband faces growing indifference—and worse—to his Net Zero disaster at home and abroad. Of the Summit’s 120 government officials, business leaders, and experts, it’s striking that China, Russia, and Saudi Arabia declined to attend altogether.
