Trump Threatens China With Even Higher Tariffs ━ The European Conservative

U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday, April 7th, threatened huge additional tariffs on imports from China if Beijing did not withdraw its retaliation plans, adding Washington would begin negotiations with other countries if they wish.

“If China does not withdraw its 34% increase above their already long term trading abuses by tomorrow, April 8th, 2025, the United States will impose ADDITIONAL Tariffs on China of 50%, effective April 9th.” Trump said in a Truth Social post.

Last week, Donald Trump unveiled sweeping tariffs against U.S. trading partners after what he said were “years of being ripped off.” He claimed that governments were lining up to cut deals with Washington.

On Friday, China said it would impose retaliatory levies of 34% on all U.S. goods from April 10th.

European stock markets plummeted at the start of trading on Monday, April 7th.

EU trade chief Maroš Šefčovič said the European Union is willing to deploy “every tool” to protect itself from the impact of U.S. tariffs should negotiations fail.
