Ryanair has settled a lawsuit by a German traveler who felt his human rights had been violated because the airline’s booking system requires that you check a box for Mr., Mrs., or Miss—none of which he identifies with.
The would-be traveler had requested €5,000 in damages but agreed to the airline’s settlement suggestion, which included adding the title “Mx.,” short for “Mixter”—a gender-neutral form of address deemed acceptable by English-speaking people who call themselves “non-binary”—to its website.
The plaintiff is encouraging other companies to follow suit, Apollo News reports.
