Italian Police Warn Drivers of “Mirror Trick” Gang ━ The European Conservative

Drivers in Italy should be aware of an organized scam tricking drivers into paying criminals for fabricated damage supposedly inflicted on their cars, Italian carabinieri warned.

Here’s how they work: Passing on the highway, they will produce a sound—possibly by shooting at your car with an airsoft gun—making it appear there was a collision between your vehicle and theirs. After forcing drivers to stop, the scammers falsely claim a broken side mirror and demand €200 to €300 in compensation.

If this happens, do not stop, Italian police warn. Instead, note the license plate and immediately call the European emergency number, 112, to alert motorway police, who can then block all exits.
