Flemish right-wing party Vlaams Belang said it is “incomprehensible” that the Flemish government has remained silent about the plight of white South Africans who are being persecuted on racial grounds in their home country.
A group of 49 white South Africans arrived on Monday, May 12th, for resettlement in the United States after President Donald Trump granted them refugee status as victims of what he called a genocide.
Trump has accused South Africa’s government of targeting Afrikaners with a controversial land seizure law enacted this year. The U.S. administration has launched a resettlement programme for South Africans of Afrikaner ethnicity or those who belong to a racial minority.
“A world power takes responsibility, while Flanders is silent about the structural oppression of a people with which it is historically and linguistically closely connected,” said Flemish MP Kristof Slagmulder.
Our government likes to show solidarity with all kinds of foreign minorities, but when it comes to white Afrikaners, they suddenly look the other way.
