EU States Close Airspace to Fico, Vučić en Route to Moscow ━ The European Conservative

After Lithuanian authorities officially blocked Serbian president Aleksandar Vučić’s plane bound for Moscow from crossing the country’s airspace, Latvia did the same. Lithuanian officials cited “technical and diplomatic sensitivity” as the reason for the flight restriction, Novosti reports.

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico was also denied overflight permission by both Poland and Lithuania—moves seen as attempts to prevent attendance at the Russian celebration the 80th anniversary of the victory over Nazism.

“Hysterical,” Fico commented. “Just imagine where international relations are now.”

The EU has threatened with severe consequences for anyone participating in the Moscow events.
